Another year has past and it feels like it went by in just a few weeks. So now is the best time to relax, game and enjoy the holidays. What a great way to greet the new year.
Although I am not in the greatest holiday spirit, because I live in Santiago de Chile, where it’s currently 38°C (I miss the snow). Fortunately I can always count on special holiday events to get me in the mood.
Every major Online-Videogame has had an update for the holiday season. These include new skins, emotes, sprays for our favourite characters, new maps and sometimes new game modes, like Mei’s Snowball Offensive in Overwatch.
World of Warcraft also has special In-Game events and most of the MMOs do, too – The Elder Scrolls Online is also one of the them. LoL and Dota 2 also included new content for the Winter holidays.
But these events are nothing new; other games, e.g. in the Nintendo-Franchise, have special winter easter eggs. Animal Crossing, the popular home-simulator, has new content depending on the date of the year.
I like these kind of changes, because it keeps games alive and well. Players might check back into a game they haven’t touched in a long time, to see the Christmas-Spirit and experience it with our favorite characters.
So, what to do when it just doesn’t feel like Christmas? Don’t lose hope, because you can always equip your new favorite skin and drink a virtual hot chocolate.
